History of Green Bay's Parks

Edison Park/School

This was the first new school building proposed and planned as a park/school concept in 1965. Land was acquired with ASC Service funds, and recreation facilities including a swimming pool were also partially funded. The building with indoor pool was dedicated November 8, 1970.

1985 - Winter recreation swimming was discontinued due to low attendance and budget restrictions. Instruction classes were held after Christmas as scheduled.

1986 - Summer recreation swimming was cut from the budget for both Edison and Southwest indoor pools but instituted after enough signed up for season passes; however the schedule was abbreviated to weekday afternoons.

1990 - Open swimming was held one night per week on a trial basis beginning in late March and continued during the winter months later alternating with Southwest Pool.

1992 - Green Bay Babe Ruth was given approval to construct a concession stand at Edison Park/School.
